Podstel is more than just a hostel, its a community! The moment you walk in, you're surrounded by like minded travelers, awesome staff, and even locals eager to share their Romanian culture. Podstel hosts all kinds of events to help you meet others: tea nights, game nights, cooking, performances on their garden stage, and even language exchange; making it the perfect place for solo travelers or social groups. In my three days in Bucharest, I met countless people I still call friends and stay connected with. For instance, I met Marina at a language exchange event and we instantly clicked. She showed me places all around her city that I would've never found on my own. I returned that same night to an impromptu garden jam session at the hostel, a regular occurrence given their passionate staff and social atmosphere for locals.
Hostel Jamaika is the perfect spot to kick off the fun in Vilnius! It's located right in the heart of the city and just next to the big market. Wake up each morning to fresh fruit before heading out for a day of touring. Hostel Jamaika is friendly on your budget and offers one of the most active social scenes in Vilnius. Locals frequently come to chill in the garden, catch live music, explore the art gallery. Theres even a hair salon and tattoo studio attached. I loved the quirky, artistic vibe they created: chairs made out of old clawfoot tubs, repurposed pallet furniture, and edgy artwork. My favorite part was the dorm. Unlike most hostels, Hostel Jamaika does not have bunkbeds! Each bed has its own shelving and privacy curtains on either side; giving you the feel of having your own space. As someone who frequently travels and knows the exhaustion involved, I was so grateful for a private space to retreat to after all the social activities.
Ever dreamt of spending a night in a jail cell? Hopefully not...but what if you've got a key for the door and you're own private art gallery inside? There's truly nothing quite like Hostel Celica! Located inside a former military prison, each cell has been decked out by a different local artist. The area around, also former barracks, is an active social and cultural center known as Metelkova. You're sure to come across all sorts of surprises. Explore the vibrant murals, cult bars, pubs, galleries, museums, even theatre performances. Better still, Hostel Celica is located just a five minute walk from the main bus and train station, making it the perfect jumping point for day trips to the famous lakes and Julian Alps. I loved all the social events and barbecues organized by hostel staff. My stay in jail in Slovenia is one of those bucket list memories I'll never forget!
Ostello Bello Hostel in Milan is located near the city center, and in very close vicinity to the famous Duomo Di Milano, shopping districts, and some of the best nightlife in Milan. It's a cozy place, and the staff are friendly - you even get a complimentary drink when you arrive! A must for any budget traveler - they've got free breakfast in the morning and dinner at night, as well as leftovers from the previous days’ dinner (available 24/7 in the refrigerator in the hostel’s kitchen). After a long day of sightseeing take a moment to relax and enjoy beer from the hostel bar, or chill in the morning with a cup of coffee and one of their many helpful guidebooks. Ostello Bello had so much to offer if you're looking for a social scene and a place to stay that won't break the bank.
